This is a list of tid-bits that I find useful in aiding the Domestic Witch in creating a comfortably witchy home.
1. Spray a bit of perfume, drops of essential oils, or room spray on light bulbs to make a room smell fresh and add a magickal aura according to the sent you’ve chosen. Make sure you do this while the light is off otherwise the light bulb will likely explode.
2. Keeping an acorn at your window will keep lightning from striking.
3. Keep a Kitchen Witch (Cottage Witch) doll in your kitchen to bring good luck and to keep away any ill meaning spirits.
4. Spilling water on your tablecloth means a storm is coming. The same is true of a coffee pot that keeps boiling over.
5.Burn a candle on your stove to symbolize the hearth fire of the past. This honors your patron kitchen Goddess and fills your home with love. (Candles have a longer burning life if you place them in the freezer for a few hours before lighting them.)
6. To keep an unwanted visitor from returning sweep whatever room or rooms they were in as soon as they leave your home.
7. Never sweep your kitchen after the sun goes down
8. Two yolks in an egg foretell a marriage.
9. Cakes should be baked while the sun is rising.
10. Never turn a loaf of bread upside down after it has been cut.
11. It’s good luck to receive a loaf of bread as a house-warming present.
12. To throw away bread is to throw away any potential luck and prosperity that would come to your home, instead make breadcrumbs or feed it to the birds.
13. If a ring of rice forms around the edge of a pot it means money is coming.
14. Wine leftover from ritual…freeze it in ice cube trays then add a cube or two to gravies, sauces, and casseroles as needed.
15. To make your food taste better keep a quartz crystal on or near your stove.
16. When given a plant as a gift you should not say thank you or the plant will die.
17. Those looking for love should place a pot of basil on their windowsill.
18. Rosemary can be placed under pillows to ward of evil spirits.
19. In ancient times it was believed that in gardens “where rosemary flourished, the woman ruled.”
20. Lavender can be placed under the mattress to bring passion to the marital bed or hung on a bedpost for protection.
21. Growing ivy in your home guards against disaster.
22. Grow a spider plant (chlorophytum comosum) in a space you want to purify.
To be honest, this is the first spread I’ve ever created and carried out for a client concerning their past lives. It’s a general spread, looking at three themes of your past existences. The goal of this reading is to learn and take away something from said past lives.
If you psychically can tune in and tell a person who they were in other times, that’s awesome! I cannot, unfortunately, at this time. So, this spread gives some insight into what the client may have been up to in other lifetimes, as well as the major lesson to take away from it all.You don’t have to have cards 1, 3, and 5 represent specific past lives (I did not), but you absolutely can!
This reading will help you scratch the surface. If you want to dive deeper, I suggest finding a way to carry out a past-life regression, preferably with a professional highly trained in that area.
So, please, use this spread at your leisure! And, if you want me to take a peek for you, click here to find the spread in my shop. I’m offering it at a special low-time price for the holidays.
Cheers!

Okay so if you’re like me and bought a small copper cauldron for your witchy endeavors and then found that, after using it in spells and rituals, it’s become discolored FEAR NOT because you can make it look brand spanking new with the simplest of ingredients.
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of distilled white vinegar
½ a cup (I was eyeballing it) of all purpose flour
Dissolve the salt in the vinegar and then add the flour to create a paste (you may need to add more because, like I said, I was eyeballing it). Rub the paste onto your copper and let it sit for fifteen minutes. Afterwards, run it under warm water and scrub like you would a normal pan. This works on all types of copper, so don’t feel like you have to use it on a cauldron exclusively. Happy witching!
we all know the scenario. you’re bored and want to something, anything, witchy. not quite casting a spell, but not quite sitting there and meditating. now what?
•Gardening. Tending to a garden, from growing herbs to making a terrarium.
•Scrying with mundane objects. Look into the clouds or even the floorboards.
•Physically clean a space. This can be associated with spiritual cleaning.
•Give yourself a witchy manicure. Paint sigils on your nails.
Even if they just breathe in the pollen. Or get it on their fur. They will fucking die. Do not do it.

the most toxic household plants for cats is the common lily. In fact, eating as little as two or three leaves from the flowers can result in liver failure and, if left untreated, can have a fatal outcome for cats.” (Source: PetMD)
Shielding is not an easy craft to master, but there are many ways that are incredibly powerful with just the slightest trust and a little bit of practice. As soon as possible, start to practice shielding and methods of spiritual protection. You never want to just wait for a time that it’s critical. Also, you can never shield to much. It’s amazing and very empowering to have layer upon layer of shielding, and the energy and time you put into shielding will really save you a lot of energy and time in the future. Even just walking around, through crowds, cities, etc, drains your energy–negative energy is everywhere, and consciously seeking only the energy for your best and highest good will really, truly, and completely empower you.
You can shield from anything and everything, just make sure to allow in things for your “best and highest interest/good.” Cast every shield with this affirmation. This allows what people would consider “negative” emotions to still come through, so you can live a balanced life, since not all emotions that are considered negative actually are. This affirmation effectively only allows things that raise or balance your vibration, and help you to spiritually evolve. It won’t cut you off from anything necessary.
Robe of White Light:
Focus for a moment on calming yourself, and once you have a clear mind, imagine a nice fluffy robe around you (I always imagine one like in the game Journey) made of white and protective light. This is the universe’s energy, and nothing ill can penetrate it once it is surrounding you.
It is recommended to repeat once or twice a day to maintain the shielding.
You can also use the affirmation of “I call upon a robe of loving and protective white light, knowing that it will protect me from all energy not in my highest interest. This robe protects me with the power of the Universe/Source/God.”
Guardian Protection:
Ask your guardian spirits (either aloud or through your mind) to protect you.
Always command that the guardians who help that they “come in light.” And if not, say they must leave. You don’t even have to know their name, but if they aren’t here to help, then they shouldn’t be around you. So just command this and all with ill intentions will be forced to leave.
Call on them for a need by need basis.
Auric Hardening:
Imagine your aura (trust whatever color you see in your mind’s eye), and then imagine it hardening, like it’s calcifying around you. It can get as hard as a rock, or like armor.
This can sometimes push away any energy exchanges, so you could feel more distant from positive interactions too. So, it’s best used when a threat is around
Usually lasts between 4 hours-2 days, depending on the strength of your intention.
Sigil warding:
Draw with a pen, marker, or with the tip of your finger (if you don’t need visible lines) a sigil with the intention of protecting yourself. A sigil is most basically an energetic line (or series of them) with an intention. The lines hold the energy and magnify the intention.
Calm yourself with a short breathing meditation, then focus on what you intend to shield-yourself, another, or a place.
Imagine casting a ball of light towards the designated target, with the intention of allowing the Universe/Source to channel through you and shield whatever you intend to.
Just watch and observe as the shield is built, knowing that it is fully fueled by the energy of the Universe and will stay there, and stay strong, until the shield is released consciously by you.
You can specify this shield for certain purposes, like to only keep a spirit out, or to keep all negative spirits out.
Reiki Shielding and Protection:
In Usui Reiki, there is a technique your Reiki Masters should have taught you about warding and cleansing the room in white light. Channel Reiki energy to do this.
If you are attuned to Reiki II, you should know the 1st symbol and that it can be used to stop all energy that is not in your highest good from coming towards you, working as an effective shield when the symbol is called on.
You need to be properly attuned to Reiki for this.
Bubble shielding:
Similar to the white light or shielding with intention, but focusing on making and empowering a bubble around you.
Replenish this as often as possible, since this is dependent on your own care.
Can be in an oval or a sphere shape. If this is hard to get a hang of, then try just fitting it a couple inches away from your body, similar to auric hardening.
Waterfall shielding:
A bubble shield with the intention of existing on top of an underneath bubble shield.
Focus on this shield and set the intention of having it move around like a waterfall. This way, someone sending negative energy has a very small chance of hitting the same place twice.
Elemental shielding:
All of these are built with a specific intention and visualization of the shield. Time around such element used will strengthen the shield, or a conscious meditation to draw the energy towards you and the shield.
Fire shield: Envision burning fire, that will destroy all negative energy/energy not for your highest good, when it tries to enter your energetic space.
Water shield: Similar to the waterfall shield, but with the visual of actual water flowing that can wash away all negative debris or toxicity clinging to any form of bubble shield underneath it.
Earth shielding: This one can block off positive energy too, since it works more like a layer of earth around the person. Though, it can also be envisioned to only grow/manifest around you in times of need or when you’re being attacked or faced with negative energy. It can also block your third eye from seeing outside. Earth shielding can also work as a means of grounding you, which doesn’t have negative effects (as long as you don’t neglect your upper chakras). If you ground yourself to the earth, and your are harmed or shaken by negative energy, you can replenish your energy from the earth.
Air shielding: Envision a fast current of air around you that sweeps away all negative energy or malevolent beings.
Light shielding: A bright white light that totally purifies all energy that contacts it, similar to the robe of white light. Different colored lights can work too, but they all have specific purposes that you should research first.
Ether shielding: Sometimes this works like a portal, transporting all malevolent energy to another place in the universe. Just make sure to set the intention that things in your best and highest interest aren’t affected, and that the travel won’t severely harm anyone who is transported by the portal (since sometimes negative energy can come from just someone in a bad mood).
Chaos shielding: Not always considered an element, but with the idea of scattering any negative energy–the sudden increase in entropy raises the vibration to something more positive.
Shadow and smoke shielding: Imagining either element around you, mostly for cloaking and making your energy less obvious. This is great for astral projection and spiritual travel when you don’t want to be noticed. You can infuse the energy with an intention of how you want to be perceived, like if a threat comes, then you can suddenly raise this shield and make the smoke cause you to seem dangerous, scaring off the opponent.
Halo shielding:
Imagine a series of halos that spin quickly around you, moving to knock away negative energy if it approaches your space. This can be inside or outside of a bubble or light based shield.
Protection charms and enchanted objects:
Work made by you, when you have a lot of experience, in creating a sigil charm or enchanted object meant for protection. This can also be from someone who has passed down a family protection amulet (just research it and bathe it in light to clear any possible negative energy on it), or from an experienced energy worker making protection amulets, charms, or objects.
Some are religiously charged, like crosses, pentagrams, etc. If this matches your belief, your belief will empower it.
Sugar is used primarily as an attracting agent in magic, “sweetening” people to your wishes, whether they be potential lovers or business customers. – In Practice: Use to sweeten a business and draw in more customers. Sprinkle a little sugar in front of the entrance to work in order to draw people in. Add cinnamon for a boost, as cinnamon is considered extremely lucky.
Mint can be used in your magical practice to make charms work faster, or to better prepare your mind and intentions to be aligned with the intentions of a charm. It can be used in a spray or sprinkle to increase the mental vibrations of a place, so putting it in a school or office is ideal. – In Practice: Mix a teaspoon of dried mint leaf in a cup of boiling water and let it come to room temperature. Add the cup of water to your hair as a rinse after you wash your hair and rinse it. When you rinse the mint tea out, make sure to scrub your scalp thoroughly. This will stimulate mental activity and remove dullness.
Rosemary got its name from the Latin Rosmarinus meaning “dew of the sea” and is considered to have powerful properties across a wide range of magical traditions, though it’s typically used for protection and cleansing rituals. It can be placed under pillows, in pockets, or secured in infant bedrooms to protect children from negative forces and energy. – In Practice: Keep a sprig of rosemary by your heart and it will always remain open.
Rosewater is a mild protective agent that can be used as a floor wash to eliminate heavy vibrations, making a home or ritual space more comfortable to live in. It is also known for its use in beauty tonics. – In Practice: Put six cups of rose petals in a saucepan and add four cups of water then bring to a boil. Let the mixture boil for 10–15 minutes. When it has cooled, pour the mixture through a strainer and into a sealable bottle for use in magic. Though fresh-picked roses and rainwater are ideal, using store-bought roses and clean tap water will also work. You can splash on a little rosewater whenever you are feeling down. It also acts as a magnet for loving vibes.
Garlic – The same healing properties that it has in medicine are useful in magic to remove negativity, and to purify thoughts and places. – In Practice: A quick and easy use for garlic is to burn the skins on a fire or on charcoal in order to keep money in your home. For a spell to eliminate negativity, add cloves of garlic to a bowl of vinegar. Leave overnight. If the garlic has turned dark purple or black, that means there was a lot of negative energy and you should do again with fresh garlic and vinegar for one more night. If it looks fine, then you do not have to redo it. Flush the vinegar an garlic cloves down toilet to dispose of them.
Sage is an herb of wisdom and healing and can be used in a variety of forms for magical practice. A simple tea made with a teaspoon of sage and a cup of boiling water can be added to a bath in order to destroy illusions and to resolve problems. It can also be added to a charm bag to make your expectations about a charm or spell to be more realistic. – In Practice: Cleanse the house with bundled sage and it will feel lighter, this gets rid of negative energy that has accumulated. You can also do this to yourself to give you a little clear out from a hectic day. sage is available at some magic retailers and craft supply stories. But if you cannot find it bundled, you can dry the sage sprigs yourself. They should be about six inches in length and completely dried when you bundled them with twine. For more complete instructions, you can visit this page for making small basic bundles.
Sandalwood is a very popular incense scent that is often sold as incense sticks; it can be found at places like a Michael’s craft store just as easily as at a magic shop. Sandalwood is believed to have protective properties and is used most often in spells and charms meant to banish negative forces in your life. – In Practice: When you are feeling blocked, braid three ribbons together, representing three things you feel blocked about. You can write them on the ribbon before you braid. Put the braid in your pocket and carry it with you for a full day to get your energy on it. Light some sandalwood incense and as you take in the scent, take out the braid and start undoing it. Really focus on the intention of these obstacles becoming uncrossed. When finished, take the ribbons to a crossroads or intersection and dispose of them. Leave three pennies for the spirits that open the roads as well.
Basil is a multipurpose herb with many potential uses in magic, and for bringing good fortune in money and in love. It is also known for its cleansing and lightening properties. – In Practice: Basil can be used for money, prosperity, and love workings. Steep like you would tea and then mop the floors with it or sprinkle a little on the floor and sweep it up.
Ginger is used to make spells come into fruition faster, as well as enhancing the spell. It is also used to enhance passion in relationships. – In Practice: Adding ginger to food can bring more passion to a relationship.
